Everything around us is made up of matter. Matter can be pure substance or mixture.
Pure Substances have a fixed chemical composition (only one kind of particle). Example : Pure water, carbon dioxide, iron, gold, salt …
Mixtures are made by two or more chemical substances mixed together (they are not chemically combined). There is two types of mixture:

- Homogeneous mixture: The homogeneous mixtures have a uniform composition, they are monophasic (formed by one phase), and the components inside this mixture are not visible by the naked eye. Example: Salt+ water, Sugar + water, Air …
- Heterogeneous mixture: the heterogeneous mixtures do not have a uniform composition (non uniformity), they are multiphasic, and all the components are visible to the naked eye. Example : Sand + water, oil + water …
